Fifteen thousand plus members strong. A new multi-million-dollar House of Worship built under his leadership, and completed, by the Grace of God in 2006. Respected around the City of Philadelphia and around the state of Pennsylvania. Requested to sit at conference room tables with Governors, Mayors, United States Senators and Congress persons to dialogue and brainstorm about ways to make America a better place. That’s Reverend Dr. Alyn E. Waller, Senior Pastor of Enon Tabernacle Baptist Church.
To know the roots of a person is to understand their foundation. To see the results of that upbringing is to understand what God can do.
Dr. Waller was called to lead Enon Tabernacle Baptist Church in Philadelphia, PA as their Senior Pastor in 1994. By July of 2006, with the church growing by leaps and bounds, Enon became one church in two locations, with development of the new church campus which includes a 5000-seat sanctuary, Family Life Center, and a “big backyard”, for the youth ministry, (which includes cheerleading, football, basketball, baseball, track, and soccer, open to all youth, not just members of Enon). A man who always puts words to action, Waller is very active in the Philadelphia School District and is known to host town hall meetings and other events that support the education of youth. He also created the Young Abrahams, a ministry at Enon, that pairs young boys, ages 7 to 12, with men who help them improve academics and develop the social skills necessary to become productive men in society. In addition, Dr. Waller also provides direction to Enon l s Scholarship Ministry through which church offerings and donations provide scholarships and stipends to scores of students each year.
Dr. Waller and Enon have assisted in the renovation of the former Germantown High School library and financially sponsored the music program at Martin Luther King High School, (MLK). In his spare time, the pastoral robe comes off, as he puts on his assistant wrestling coach hat, for the MLK High School.
During the height of the Coronavirus Pandemic, that took the lives of millions of people worldwide, Dr.
Waller partnered with Rev. Marshall Mitchell, Dr. Ala Stanford and the Black Doctors Covid-19
Consortium, first to offer free testing for thousands of people, in the parking lot of Enon, and then once a vaccine was approved, for vaccinations at his church. At a time in American history when people were dying by the millions, and many more were afraid or skeptical to get vaccinated, Dr. Waller stepped up to help educate the African American community, about why it was important to get vaccinated. He helped save lives.
Recognizing the need for a healing amongst men, another passion of Dr. Wallers is his Men’s Ministry. Dr. Waller has gathered hundreds of men from various religious backgrounds and community affiliations to offer a visible presence and positive influence in Philadelphia neighborhoods.
Dr. Waller draws on his love for people to shape God’s vision for Enon with over 100 ministries that focus on worship, discipleship, fellowship, missions, and evangelism. His outreach extends far beyond the four walls of Enon through local and international community activism. Enon regularly hosts numerous community awareness events including health and wellness initiatives that offer critical information and screenings to Enon membership as well as the community at large.
Dr. Waller has served as the President of the Lott Carey Global Christian Missional Community, and he developed the Enon International Pastors Fellowship where Pastors from the United States and South Africa partner to present missional and evangelistic opportunities throughout the African continent. Over the years, Enon (in both the United States and South Africa) have engaged in numerous missionary and ministry opportunities. Dr. Waller has also preached in South Korea to over 100,000 persons and presented at an Oxford University roundtable on religious theory.
On top of Dr. Waller’s powerful gift of preaching God’s word in such a way that he has you sitting on the edge of your seat, God has blessed him with other gifts that further extend his ability to share God through singing and teaching, and literature. He is the author of several books including “Enjoy Your Journey: Our Quest for a Deeper Relationship with Christ” and “Hope for the Journey: Believing God is Enough When the Road Gets Rough” and the most recent “The Code of the Righteous Warrior” 10 Laws of Moral Manhood for an Uncertain World.” He carries the gospel message through regular appearances on Philadelphia radio stations and offers social commentary on Facebook and Twitter. He is involved with numerous service organizations and has been awarded countless honors for his leadership throughout the Philadelphia area.
A native of Cleveland, OH, Dr. Waller was born to the late Reverend Dr. Alfred M. Waller, Sr. and Mrs. Belva J. Waller. Dr. Waller earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Business from Ohio; a Master of Divinity Degree from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary; a Doctor of Ministry Degree in Ministry to Marriage and Family from Palmer Theological Seminary (formerly Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary) in Wynnewood, PA.
Dr. Waller was licensed to preach the gospel and ordained at Shiloh Baptist Church in
Cleveland, OH. He honed his love of music and preaching gifts as Minister of Music at Canaan
Missionary Baptist Church in Louisville, KY and accepted the call to the pastorate as the Senior Pastor of the First Baptist Church of Donora in PA, before being called to lead Enon Tabernacle Baptist Church.
In short, Reverend. Dr. Alyn E. Waller is a highly sought-after revivalist, vocalist, and lecturer. He’s a true visionary of the church and community, who serves humanity far beyond the restraints of traditionalism. His partner in marriage and ministry, the love of his life, is Dr. Ellyn Jo Waller, the leader of Enon’s Women’s Ministry and a devoted mother to their two daughters, Elynn Morgan and Eryka Lynn.
