Earl Young (3- time Grammy winner and Nashville Music Hall Famer) known as the drummer for “The Sound of Philadelphia” with a Bass voice dreamt of singing and having his own group. He heard a song “Zing Went the String of My Heart”, by a 60’s group known as “The Coasters”. He decided to record the song with a dance style duet with a lead Bass singer and longtime friend Jimmy Ellis. Together with two members from “The Volcanoes” he formed “the Trammps”, Buddha Records signed them, and it became their first hit. The album the “Legendary Zing also included their next hit “Hold back the Night”.

It was 1975 that Atlantic Records inked the group with their album “That’s Where the Happy People Go”. This album garnered them Billboards’ Best Disco album, Best disco Artist, Best disco sing and Best Disco single unrelease. It also earned Earl Young billboards Best Disco Drummer. Their second release Disco Inferno (1977) would earn the group their first gold album. The titles track (of the same name emerged as the disco party anthem of the 70’s

In 1978 Paramount pictures along with RSO Records release the ultimate narrative on the disco era “Saturday Night Fever”. The soundtrack would include “Disco Inferno and it earned the group a Grammy for Best album. It went on to become one of the top ten best-selling albums, best soundtrack and #1 Best-selling double album in music history

“Disco Inferno” has been re-released on several compilation albums. It has been included in several motion pictures such as “Ghostbusters”, “kingpin”, the Bubble boy and “Tuxedo”. As well as many television commercials. It was privilege to be invited to attend a White House luncheon and perform for the First Family.

Today the group is composed of Earl Young (Founder and original member) Antwon Young, Rinny Rankins, and Johnny King. They have appeared on The Oprah show, The Rikki Lake Show and Wendy Williams Show. Most recently appeared in a cameo appearance in HBO’s “Big Little Lies” season 2. Have also appeared in PBS documentary “Disco Soundtrack of a Revolution”.

The group has a reputation for being boisterous and jubilant with their harmonies and sound. They rock their audiences around the world. They have performed as such venues as the Greek Theatre, Madison Square Garden, Various casinos Las Vegas, and Atlantic City. They have also performed cruise ship events such “The Soul Train Cruise” and “The Ultimate Disco Cruise”
